Celeste Barber does not hold back when it comes to pointing out just how ridiculous our social media habits and mainstream beauty standards are today. Through her long-running Instagram series, #CelesteChallengeAccepted, Barber posts side-by-side photos of herself imitating pictures of celebrities, models and the like. Her witty parodies are nothing short of hilarious, and she knows no shame as she bares it all in some nearly nude photos.
The international Instagram star does not let anyone off easy as she pokes fun of big-name A-listers like Kendell Jenner, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, and so many more. Often times the celebrities themselves parodied by Celeste end up liking or commenting on the posts and she has gained quite a high caliber fan base.
A Fun Experiment
Celeste started the recreations in January 2015 as a fun experiment to see what it would like for an average person to try and mimic the rich and famous doing “rich people things.” Her addictive posts quickly gained a large following of adoring fans from around the world.
She now has a whopping 5.7 million followers which include superstars and average Joe’s alike. If you look through her page you will find endearing comments and support from people like Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashton Kutcher, Reese Witherspoon and that’s just to name a few
Celeste often includes her husband, Api Robin, in her posts calling him ‘hot husband’ poking fun at how she thinks she married a man who is ‘universally hotter’ than her. Robin even has his own Instagram handle appropriately titled ‘hot husband.’ The pair have two young sons together and Api has two older daughters from his previous relationship.
Not Just an Instagram Star
Other than her Instagram fame, Celeste is also known for her acting roles in shows such as “The Letdown,” “How Not to Behave” and “All Saints.” Her social media fame has skyrocketed her career in comedy as well as in fashion.
Last Septemeber she received an invite from Tom Ford to participate in New York Fashion Week. Barber stayed true to her reputation and her and Ford made a tasteful mockery of the designer’s fitting process as well as on the runway.
Taking the World by Storm
The fast-food chain, Carl’s Jr also took the ‘Celeste challenge’ by featuring the comedian in a 2017 TV advertisement. The commercial makes fun of the companies notoriously scandalous and somewhat sexist ads that they have gained a reputation for. It shows the Instagram mega-star lathering up and washing an old station wagon, directly parading a 2005 ad that featured Paris Hilton washing a car in a bikini.
The parody queen also recently graced the March cover of “InStyle Australia.” and her fans absolutely loved it. If that wasn’t enough, Barber also recently published her book titled “Celeste Barber’s Challenge Accepted!” The book is described on Celeste’s website as “part memoir, part comedy routine, part advice manual.” the comedian already had a sold-out tour in the U.S and is now taking the world by storm through her summer comedy tour that will reach both North America and Europe.
