Wondering what’s happening with the second Avatar movie? You’re not the only one. The first film was released back in 2009, receiving huge acclaim for its ambitious special effects. But now we’re over a decade on and everyone is antsy to find out what happens next for Jake Sully and Neytiri.
At Popular Everything, we’re going to give you the low-down on what’s going on with the sequel. Director James Cameron’s been busy behind the scenes for this challenging project, and we dont doubt it’s been keeping his hands full. What we know for sure is that the follow-up film “promises to be even more ambitious than the first,” accoring to producer Jon Landau.
First of all, there’s more than one movie in the works. There’s actually four more sequels lined up to follow on from the 2009 original which is gigantic undertaking. Having initially been intended for a 2014 release, Avatar 2 is now looking to be ready for us in 2022. That’s right, we’ve still got a fair amount of time to wait.
What Can We Expect?
The fifth and final film to the series has the questionably predicted release date on 2028, but we’ll have to see if that’s actually realistic for this crew. But we do know a little about about what the setting will be; proceed with caution if you don’t want to hear any spoilers!
Avatar 2 is set to to take place 13 years after the events of the first film with Jake and Neytiri, the main characters, raising a family. Expect there to be trouble in paradise though, as there are going to be challenges thrown their way that threaten to break up their unit. They’ll be venturing outside of the Na’vi community to new and unexplored territories.
We’re going to be seeing a lot of the initial cast returning for the follow-up films. Expect to see Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sigourney Weaver resume their beloved roles. But also prepare for some fresh A-listers to join the cast – both Kate Winslet and Vin Diesel have been confirmed in the sequels and we can’t wait. So things are looking good, we just need to find more patience. In the words of Sigourney: “I just wish the movies were coming out sooner, because I feel like the world needs more Avatar as soon as possible.” We couldn’t agree more.
