It’s official, singer, fashion designer, and actress, Robyn Rihanna Fenty is the worlds wealthiest female musician in the world. In Forbe’s annual list of “America’s Richest Self-Made Women” for 2019, Rihanna topped the list as the highest paid woman in the music industry. With an estimated net worth of $600 million, her fortune is greater than both Madonna and Beyonce.
The Barbadian singer has sold more than 60 million albums and 215 million digital tracks and currently stands as the second best-selling digital artist of all time, second only to Drake. Her music was not the only thing that contributed to her wealth.
Her Big Break
Rihanna got her start when she was a young 15 years old. She was discovered in her home country of Barbados by American record producer, Evan Rogers. Rogers passed on her demo to Def Jam Recordings where she signed a six-album record deal with rapper and music producer, Jay-Z. Her debut album, Music of the Sun released in August 2005.
It was all uphill from there for the young star. Her album was a hit, selling over 2 million copies worldwide. Rhianna made her acting debut the following year with the straight to DVD film, Bring it On: All or Nothing. She has also appeared in films such as Home, Annie, and Oceans 8. Since her music debut, Rhianna has released eight more successful studio albums and has earned 14 number one singles, nine Grammy awards, 13 American Music Awards, and 12 Billboard Music Awards. Rihanna is also part-owner in the successful streaming service, Tidal.
Despite her huge success in the entertainment industry, music and movies are actually not where the majority of Rihanna’s riches come from. A good portion of her wealth was actually acquired through her partnership with luxury good company, LVMH. With LVMH’s backing, in 2017 Rihanna successfully launched her Fenty Beauty cosmetics line, which since then has earned $570 million, and is worth an estimated $3 billion.
Since Fenty Beauty, the star has expanded beyond makeup into high-end fashion and clothing. She now co-owns the Savage x Fenty lingerie brand with online fashion firm TechStyle Fashion. In May of this year, she also extended the Fenty line to include a range of accessories and jewelry. With these projects, Rihanna has now become the first black woman to run a major luxury fashion house.
Before owning her own line, the singer introduced herself to the fashion industry when she collaborated with clothing lines, Puma and Savage. She also had creative partnerships with brands such as Armani, River Island, and MAC. In addition, she has released 11 fragrances throughout the years. This woman is an unstoppable entrepreneur to say the very least.
Where Does She Spend the Money?
So what does Rihanna do with all these riches? For one thing she owns several apartment, condos and mansions in California, New York, and England. When she’s not working, Rihanna is known for her lavish vacation and party girl lifestyle. She has been spotted vacationing in Island Portofino, St. Tropez, Los Cabos, Honolulu, and Barbados, where she’s originally from. She also likes to splurge on nights out with her friends and on taking care of her family.
Rihanna spends a great deal on staying up to date on all the fashion and beauty trends. She reportedly spends around $38,000 a week on beauty alone. She also makes sure to wear outfits from all the high-end designers such as Saint Laurent and Gucci. Other expenditures include her personal trainer and personal chef, who makes her breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.
Lastly, Rihanna also spends a good amount of her earnings on charity work. In 2012 she founded the Clara Lionel Foundation in an effort to improve education and healthcare for children living in impoverished communities. She is also the ambassador of Barbados, the Global Partnership For Education, and the Global Citizen Project.
