The Real Life Relationships of these Friends Cast Members

Who remembers the popular US sitcom, “Friends“? Quite honestly, we’re sure the majority of you still follow the six-member gang on Netflix every once in a while, so it’s pretty hard to forget it. While you may know the will-they-won’t they love story of Ross and Rachel, and Joey’s life in bachelor paradise like the back of your hand, how well do you know these characters lives offscreen?

While it may be challenging to separate your Rachel from your Jen, these people have real lives, outside of Central Perk. Popular Everything is giving you the scoop on the offscreen relationships these cast members got involved in over the years. Let’s just pray that the real-life Ross Geller isn’t such an avid-divorcee, hey!

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer

Rachel was easily the most irresistible character on “Friends.” Her ability to transform over the years from the spoiled ‘daddy’s girl’ into a successful player in the fashion business is what had Ross falling at her feet. It appears that offscreen, Jennifer Aniston is just as popular in the dating world.

Well, this is an attractive couple if we ever saw one! Between the years 2008 – 2009, the gorgeous Aniston was pictured getting cozy with American musician, John Mayer. We’d love to say these two ended their fling on good terms, but we’d be lying. The pair went through a bitter breakup, and to this day Jen still can’t stand the singer!

Matthew Perry and Lizzy Caplan

He played an awkward jokester, she played an angsty teenager; together, they were almost a match made in heaven. Player of Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry, and Mean Girls star, Lizzy Caplan dated over six years. That’s a pretty impressive figure considering Chandler was such a huge commitment-phobe.

After lasting a total of six years together, you’d suspect wedding bells would be on the cards soon for these two, right? Wrong. According to records, Perry and Caplan eventually called it quits after Perry’s reluctance to marry. The apple never falls far from the tree within the “Friends” family!

Lisa Kudrow and Michel Stern

Who knew that Phoebe’s impressive French skills would eventually get her hitched up? While onscreen we know Lisa Kudrow to play a quirky free-spirit who had to kiss her fair share of frogs before finding the one, the situation couldn’t be more simple for the real star.

Believe it or not, Lisa Kudrow has been happily married to the advertising executive, Michel Stern for almost 24 years now. So while the onscreen Phoebe was struggling to find her special someone, offscreen she was going back to a handsome Frenchman!

Paul Rudd and Julie Yaegar

Our hearts go out to Mike. This was the one and only man who could handle a girl as kooky as Phoebe. He was a sweetheart onscreen and he’s a sweetheart offscreen, too. We can’t get over the romantic love story between the man who played Mike, Paul Rudd, and Julie Yaeger.

You couldn’t make this stuff up. Paul met the love of his life in 2011 after she (then working as a publicist) offered to help the star with a few errands. We know it’s a cliche, but ever since this moment, the two have lived happily ever after. There is hope for long-term romance in the A-lister world after all!

Matt Le Blanc and Melissa McKnight

Confessed Lothario of the group, Joey, couldn’t get enough of the ladies. To this man, the concept of marriage was one he just could not comprehend…why limit yourself to just one woman?! In the real world, it appears Matt Le Blanc couldn’t be any more different than who he was cast to play.

Some of you may need to sit down for this. After just two, we repeat, two days of getting to know each other romantically, Matt Le Blanc and actress Melissa McKnight tied the knot on 3rd May 2003. Somehow, we don’t think this would be the case for old Tribbiani! Unfortunately, this whirlwind romance came to an end just three years later.

Courteney Cox and David Arquette

She may have found true love with Chandler on the show, but offscreen Monica’s love life took a slightly different route. It was on the set of our favorite jump-scare horror movie, Scream, that the Courteney Cox and David Arquette first laid eyes on one another.

This is a perfect example of when a story tale becomes reality. The chemistry that unfolded between Courteney’s role as reporter Gale Weathers and David’s Dwight ‘Dewey Riley’ in Scream was undeniable, both on and offscreen. Sadly, after tieing the knot in 1999 the pair called it quits ten years later. Plenty more fish in the sea, Court!

Helen Bexindale and David L. Williams

Emily was the one character in “Friends” we all, understandably, wanted out of the picture. The biggest hurdle between Ross and Rachel’s love story was the moment Ross asked for his British love’s hand in marriage. Fortunately, in the real world, Helen Bexendale’s husband, David L. Williams, did not say the wrong name at the altar!

What many of you “Friends” fans may not know, is that Emily was actually taken off the popular sitcom earlier than anticipated due to being pregnant with her and David’s first child. Today, the couple remain happily married with their three children. We love a happy ending!

Matthew Perry and Lauren Graham

He may not have exactly been a dating guru on “Friends,” but away from the cameras, Matthew Perry enjoyed his fair share of romances. During the year 2003, Perry began dating Gilmore Girls star, Lauren Graham. This is a sitcom-lovers dream!

Unfortunately, 2003 was the first and last year the pair got it on. Despite their differences preventing the romance from advancing any further, these two have remained good friends and even co-starred in a lot of the same movies, including 2010’s Birds of America.

Lisa Kudrow and Conan O’Brien

What was Lisa up to before she started embodying a psychic woman who created the hit song “Smelly Cat”? Dating Conan O’Brien. The rising star hit it off immediately with the chat-show host in 1990.

These two may not have lasted long in the world of love, but that certainly did not mean it would be the last we’d see of them. Keen to remain friends, Conan has frequently invited Kudrow for a catch up on his talk show. Who says celebrity romances had to end in disaster?

Hank Azaria and Katie Wright

Oh, David…you almost had a shot! Phoebe enjoyed her short-but-sweet romance with her scientist boyfriend, but nothing could beat the way she felt for Mike. Fortunately, in the real world, Hank Azaria is not quite so unlucky in love.

It all started in 2007. Hank had a good feeling about the former actress, Katie Wright the minute he set eyes on her. Since dating, the pair decided to get hitched and, two years on gave birth to their son, Hal. Fingers crossed Hank doesn’t decide to leave it all for a research mission in Minsk!

Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn

Oh, look! It’s another onscreen romance that turned offscreen. During the filming of their bittersweet rom-com The Break-Up, Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn recognized the chemistry that bounced off them and gave love a chance.

What’s one of the biggest celebrity pet peeves? Paparazzi. During their year and a half romance from 2005-2006, Vaughn began to develop a hatred for the cameras following his and Jen’s every move, partly leading to their eventual split. Unfortunately, Vince, that’s the price you have to pay for dating one of the hottest actresses in the business!

Matt Le Blanc and Andrea Anders

Did Matt Le Blanc manage to move on from his three-year marriage to Missy McKnight? You bet he did. On the set for the “Friends” spinoff show, Joey, Matt LeBlanc locked eyes with Andrea Anders for the first time, little did he know what was in store for the pair.

They may have never married, but they gave their romance a good shot. Matt and Andrea dated for nearly ten years – a record in the celeb world! Proving there’s a little Joey inside of him, this fling ended after rumors circulated about Matt’s promiscuity. Tut, tut!

Aisha Tyler and Jeff Tietjens

The Barbados trip was a crazy time for the “Friends” crew. Joey and Rachel started seeing each other in a new light, Ross stole Joey’s date, and god only knows what was going on with Monica’s hair. While the romance between Ross and Charlie was only short, Aisha Tyler had a much longer relationship.

The actress who played Charlie Wheeler tied the knot with attorney Jeff Tietjens in the early nineties. It seemed like this was it for the pair, but sadly the spark between them blew out in 2015 when the couple separated, eventually finalizing their divorce in 2017. Life goes on, hey!

Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid

Believe it or not, Cox is not one for dwelling on past relationships. Despite the emotional baggage that followed her turbulent past with Arquette, the Monica Geller actress was keen to put previous loves behind her. Another romance quickly bloomed between Cox and Snow Patrol singer, Johnny McDaid.

Talk about a will-they-won’t they story! This relationship initially hit the rocks in 2014 after disagreements about where the pair would move (would it be Northern Ireland or California?) Much to our relief, this beautiful pair has since managed to resolve their differences. Do we hear wedding bells on the horizon? All signs point to yes.

Gary Oldman and Isabella Rossellini

Hang on a second, both of these faces look a little familiar. It turns out both Gary Oldman and Isabella Rossellini featured at some point in the “Friends” series. Rossellini appeared as herself, while Oldman played Richard Cosby, one of Joey’s famous co-stars. Did you know at one point, these two were an item?

In 1994, these two legends decided to give love a shot. Like a lot of celebrities in this list, the romance lasted only a short time (two years to be precise) before the decision to separate came around.

Jennifer Aniston and Tate Donovan

You often hear stories about co-stars that couldn’t stand each other on set, but have you ever heard of co-stars that were going through a breakup while filming together? Get ready for the whirlwind romance of Jennifer Aniston and Tate Donovan.

Remember the brief love interest between Rachel and her client, Joshua? We were all rooting for those two! In reality, Jen and Tate had been dating for two years, right up until Jen broke things off weeks before the two were set to work together on “Friends.” Good job at hiding the tension, you two, we didn’t suspect a thing!

Matt Le Blanc and Aurora Mulligan

Remember how much Joey hated London when they all had to take the trip up for Ross and Emily’s wedding? It turns out, the real-life Joey, Matt Le Blanc, doesn’t have quite as much of an issue with the UK. He’s even dating someone who lives there!

Since his days as a sitcom actor, Le Blanc took part in several different work opportunities, including his stint on British series, Top Gear. It was here that Le Blanc met the gorgeous Aurora Mulligan, who works as a producer on the show. Despite the 17 year age gap, the two have managed to keep their relationship steady to this day.

Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller

At this point, it seems if you meet someone who’s starred in the same nineties sitcom as you, it’s likely you dated them at one point. Two more stars that got together from the cast of “Friends” were Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor.

Ben may have been a love interest of Rachel’s at one point, and Christine played Ross’s crush, but it appears these two actors only had eyes for each other. They tied the knot in 2000 and have two children together. Sadly, it all came crashing down in 2017 when the pair announced their split.

Courteney Cox and Michael Keaton

Courteney Cox is no stranger to dating men who, like her, have had their time in the limelight. One of the earlier relationships from this list was that between Courteney and fellow actor, Michael Keaton.

Now, this is a serious blast from the past! These two may look like a match made in heaven here with their matching specs, but after a total of six years together (from 1989 to 1995), the couple eventually went their separate ways. Despite the split, Courteney was still keen to sing Michael’s praise in later interviews, associating him as “the most wonderful person I’ve ever met.”

Matthew Perry and Julia Roberts

Remember the time Julia Roberts briefly starred in that “Friends” episode? It would appear she made quite the impression on not only Chandler but Matthew Perry. Since meeting on set in 1996, the pair started seeing a little more of each other.

As much as we wish this turned into something amazing, these two shared only a brief love story. Matthew and Julia were caught by the paparazzi going on a few dates with one another, but their fling quickly fizzled out.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore

Remember the time in “Friends” when Rachel dated Paul Stevens? Bruce Willis may have enjoyed dating a blonde onscreen, but offscreen he was all about the brunettes. One brunette, in particular, Demi Moore, seemed to catch the famous actor’s eye.

These two were one of the most talked about couples of the nineties. The pair were so loved up that they decided to marry in 1987, and even had three children together. In a tragic twist of events, the pair divorced in 2000.

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt

We know we’ve mentioned some good looking couples on this list, but these guys have got to be nearing the top. Who remembers the day Brad Pitt joined the cast of “Friends,” playing old high school friend, Will Colbert? He may have hated Rachel on the show, but offscreen these two were already quite an item.

Just two years after dating, and what have you got? A wedding! Jen and Brad tied the knot in 2000, and the world cheered with pride! It would appear that all good things must come to an end however, as the world was shocked once these two publically announced their divorce in 2005.

David Schwimmer and Zoe Buckman

He may have been fixated on the gorgeous Rachel Green on the show, but in the real world, David Schwimmer had other plans. Years ago he may have been playing a sensitive science-geek onscreen, but fast forward to 2007 and was getting cozy offscreen with British singer, Zoe Buckman before tieing the knot three years later.

These two had a good run. David and Zoe lasted seven years as husband and wife, even giving birth to daughter Cleo Buckman Schwimmer in 2011. Much to our disappointment, these two decided to go their separate ways in 2017.

David Schwimmer and Carla Alapont

We predict David Schwimmer was making up for the fact that his love life was such a mess onscreen, by dating some of the most beautiful women offscreen. Get a load of this glamorous relationship he once got involved in while still on the show.

From 2002, Schwimmer was photographed sharing some special moments with the Spanish model, Carla Alapont. Unfortunately, the “Friends” actor and Perfect 10 Magazine star decided to call it quits not even two years later.
