<h4>Holy Crepe! What’s Going On?!</h4><p>Pancake lovers everywhere were confused when the famous International House of Pancakes that most people know by “IHOP”, announced that they’re changing their name to “IHOB”.</p><p><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5861" src="https://s27748.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/5-4.jpg" alt="" width="1000" height="667" width="1000" height="667"></p><p>Most people assumed the “b” stood for “brunch” or “breakfast”. The letter flip of a “P” to a “B” is meant to change the word “pancake” to “burger”. This change in name is to promote the debut of their new burgers. They sold burgers before though, right? Right!</p><p><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5859" src="https://s27748.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/3-2-1.jpg" alt="" width="1000" height="667" width="1000" height="667"></p><h4>Who Started It?</h4><p>When IHOP first made the announcement, other food chains like Wendy’s and Denny’s immediately took to posting on social media and mocking the name change. Denny’s tweet implied that this marketing change in name wouldn’t have much of an effect on the business.</p><p>Wendy’s, who is known for their sarcastic responses, replied to a tweet that said, “So @Wendy’s u just gonna let @IHOb sell burgers on your block? Thought you were the og?” with, “Not really afraid of the burgers from a place that decided pancakes were too hard.”</p><p><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5862" src="https://s27748.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/6-3.jpg" alt="" width="1000" height="1000" width="1000" height="1000"></p><p>In addition, White Castle also joined in on the banter by tweeting that they were changing their name to Pancake Castle. Even Netflix joined in on the fun by tweeting “brb changing my name to Netflib.” Anyone else feel kind of bad for IHOP?</p><p>Burger King has now joined the silliness by changing their name on Twitter and Facebook to Pancake King. Burger King actually does serve pancakes during their breakfast hours but they are obviously no known for these. Same thing goes with IHOP who has been serving burgers before this change in name.</p><p><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5857" src="https://s27748.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/1-2-1.jpg" alt="" width="1000" height="550" width="1000" height="550"></p><p>The internet is eating this up! One user tweeted “ I love that @BurgerKing changed their profile to ‘Pancake King’. I am 100% here for all the fast food pettiness. Supersize the petty!” Another tweet said that food chains all over the world are going to be changing their names. Some of the predictions were Panda Express going by Bear Station and Taco Bell changing into Churro Alarm. My personal favorite is Dippin&#8217; Donuts instead of Dunkin&#8217;.</p><h4>Why Did They Do It?</h4><p>While this change in name seems pointless and many are annoyed by it, look at how much attention IHOP has received! Luckily, this change is not permanent. The chain announced the same day that it was “just for the time being”. Looks like we can go back to the good old days of calling it IHOP.</p><p>This change in name was meant to increase revenue in the afternoons and evenings. Currently, more than 50% of IHOP’s (or should I say IHOB’s) customers come in during the morning hours for breakfast. The crazy part is that this marketing tactic has been used in past by other businesses. And it worked!</p><p>In 2008, Pizza Hut changed their name in the UK to Pasta Hut to market their pasta dishes. This change in name increased their sales by 1.5%. Seems like they might be on to something here.</p>
